5 lbs lost in 5 weeks

Welcome to my “Overnight Oat” project! I’m happy to report that I was able to shed that last five pounds that just seemed to want to hold on. How did I do it, you ask? I stumbled across a Pinterest (who doesn’t love Pinterest) post about the magic of mason jars and steel cut oatmeal.
So I gave it a shot. I put all of my favorite goodies in the mix and filled up my mason jars for the week. Each night, I’d fill my mason jar with water (and perhaps some frozen organic blueberries or cherries) and leave it in the fridge. Each morning, I had breakfast ready to serve. One minute in the microwave and DING – breakfast is served!
All in all the time commitment was small, and took minimal preparation.  Some weeks I would vary the ingredients, just to keep it fresh.
Next thing I knew my clothes were a little looser and my belly a little fuller. So give it a try, it’s a great way to get some of your favorite staples in. Some of my favorites include nuts, dried fruits, cinnamon, brown sugar, coconut, flax seed, cayenne pepper, the list goes on and on. Give it a shot! Your body will thank you for it!

Buffalo Cauliflower Yum!

Buffalo Cauliflower, Yes Please!

Who loves the spice of wings, but can't stand the idea of wings? Or even worse, the idea of all that fat and grease. Well problem solved, let's make some buffalo cauliflower. The beauty of this dish is you can make it to your taste, and texture. Jays Buffalo Wing Sauce takes the guessing out of the need for hot sauce. This is one way, but there are more ways you can bring that spice out. Experimentation is how you will find that perfect blend for you.

This company is Chicago based. Whatever can be done to support our local city is always a benefit.

Ingredients
  • 1 large head of Cauliflower
  • 1/2 Cup Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Hot Sauce (enter Sweet Baby Ray's)
  • *optional 1 tbsp butter to mix with your hot sauce
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • Add seasonings to taste, Sea Salt & Garlic powder (be creative)
This is the easiest recipe you can do. No cookie cutter directions needed here. Cut the cauliflower up into chunks, make sure you get rid of those hard stems. Then put the flour, seasonings and water in a bowl. Throw the cauliflower in and make sure you coat the cauliflower really well.

Baking Directions
  • Preheat oven to 425
  • Place coated cauliflower on a baking sheet, if you like extra spicy add a drizzle of hot sauce over the cauliflower before roasting. Mix it around a bit
  • Roast in the oven for 15-20 minutes.
  • Remove cauliflower from the oven and put the remaining hot sauce over the baked cauliflower.
  • Roast for an additional 20-25 minutes
Voila! Healthy and so delicious! Of course in traditional style you can add your celery, and some home made dressing. This should be a favorite to your spice lovers everywhere.

The beauty of cauliflower is it's versatility. If you're not a spice lover. You can drizzle with some olive oil and your spices and bake the same for a different option. Or replace the hot sauce with some delicious BBQ sauce. Bam! you have some BBQ cauliflower bites. The sky is the limit with this wonderful vegetable. So what are you waiting for?  Time to get cooking!

We'd love to see your creations. Take a pic and add it to the comments.

When is your "Me Time?"

by Cassandra Henzen

The end of the day is here. You leave work and can't wait to get home. Then as you venture off towards home you hit the lovely evil, we know as traffic. Let me ask you a question. When do you get to log off and shut down? No kids, no worries, no pressure, just uninterrupted full focus "you time". Were you able to honestly define that time of day? If not, then you may want to venture outside of the home for your "me" time. With Yoga classes you have that quiet time. That time to unwind, clear your mind. That time where it is all about you. No matter who you are,  everyone needs time that is all about them. Think of it as your getaway. Just think if everyone gave themselves at least one hour of down time. The nerves get settled, the mind is cleared. the muscles become relaxed. That one hour of your time.

We all need to take care of ourselves before we can take care of others. With classes you are able to leave the environment. An environment that would maybe inhibit, or maybe even distract you from taking that much needed me time. Speaking as a student of Yoga, I have to say my life has improved for the better since yoga. I'm one who takes it all on. I'm always making sure work is taken care of. Then I come home make sure the kids are taken care of, dinner is made and everyone is happy. By the time I have taken care of everyone else, there's no time for me. I never realized I needed that valuable me time. With yoga my mind became settled, relaxed and clear. I set aside one hour a day for me. Yoga class started as fitness for me, barre was my love at the time. I couldn't appreciate the meditation because my mind was always swirling. After classes and hearing my teachers speak of the importance of release and focus I have learned better. Now the practice of yoga has become my safe place. Whenever I need a break or a release. I just remember what I learn in class and use it wherever I am.  I never realized how important it was to have "me" time.

It doesn't have to be yoga you choose. Whatever brings you inner peace and quiet. Find your me place, a place where it's all about you. You for one hour and no one else. My family would always come first. An hour sounds so small. One small drop of rain can fill a bucket very quickly. Just imagine missing those small moments. I know that's how we were all taught that is how life supposed to be. Let's really think of it. If we are not happy within ourselves. If our nerves are shot, if we don't let go of the day somehow. Where does that frustration go? Do we internalize it? Do we lash out at those we love for the silliest of reasons? Reasons we later regret and beat ourselves up about later. We all deserve better. We all deserve "me time" Whichever me time you choose, make sure you have that time. Uninterrupted, focused and balanced time for yourself. You deserve that much, love, live and laugh in life.

With the summer comes great discounts, which includes day classes! Summer passes are on sale now for $99 June-August

Why do we differ?

Yoga Teacher Training is more than just learning the art of yoga. With Power Edge Yoga teacher training you begin learning hands on how to teach a group of students. You will learn how to understand your students needs and help them to develop within their own practice, as well as your own.

During class you get the opportunity of experiencing what it's truly like to teach an actual class. There are many aspects behind the practice of yoga, and with our training we cover it all. When you leave you are not only certified, but you will be confident in your own knowledge and your teaching abilities.

Power Edge Yoga training prepares you for trials and tribulations that may happen in your classes. If your worry is what kind of yoga to teach or how to find the right match, Power Edge is the match. As a student I'm happily pleased by the collection of personalities you not only learn from, but you create a bond with and become part of a family.

With our teaching we are a family not just students looking towards the end. When I enter class I am not nervous, or fearful but excited and ready to learn. That is the kind of atmosphere you have to look forward to. I'm happy to be part of this experience.

Not only am I more confident and less fearful of teaching to a group of people, but I have come to love the practice of yoga. Plus the many ways of performing yoga. If you have been thinking of taking your passion of yoga to another level I strongly encourage you to stop by and see what our wonderful community is all about.

We do offer payment plans and are happy to work with those that are excited and ready to expand their knowledge into a career. Teaching others isn't as intimidating as I feared it would be. Or maybe I'm lucky enough to be involved with a community of people that want to do more than just teach. They want to educate and bond with their students, and show that yoga is a way of
living, thinking and doing. Have I peaked your curiosity? Click Here to learn more.
